Top ten tips for creating an effective corporate video
1. Timing
Keep your video short and sweet. We recommend our corporate videos to be
between one and two minutes. The more concise your video is the more likely
your viewers will watch to then end.
2. Get Their Attention
20% of viewers click away from the video after just 10 seconds! So you really
need to make the first 10 seconds of your video engaging.
3. Key Message
The content of the video is really important. Ensure you have a clear message
and get your point across clearly and quickly.
4. Who Are You Targeting?
Think about who you want to watch your video and what you want to achieve
from it. A video for potential clients will be very different to a video targeting
potential employees for example. Ensure this is clear from the start, to get the
best end results.
5. Use Testimonials From Current Clients
The best way to show potential clients why they should use you, is by your
current clients saying how great you are and what you have done for them. One
of the best ways to do this is by a video testimonial. They can be just a 10-15 second sound bite or a complete 90 second video from your client.

6. Use Broadcast Standard
Bringing broadcast standard into the corporate sector has really made the
industry change for the better. We only use broadcast standard camera’s on our
corporate videos as well as crews who continually work in the broadcast sector
and are trained to BBC standards.
7. Company Branding
Use your company logo at the start and end of the video, if you have an image,
animate this to make it more exciting. It doesn’t cost much, but can really add to
your brand recognition. Check out our animated logo at the start and end of our
videos for an example.
8. Background
Thinking about what background to have is often something people overlook,
but it is a really important part of your video and can leave a lasting impression
on your viewer. Bookshelves can make the interviewee look educated, whilst
computers will give the impression of being tech savvy.
Whilst you can create a lovely depth of field when you have something in the
background, this isn’t always possible, so consider a neutral background if this is
the case and use lighting to enhance this on screen.
9. Use B-Roll
For anyone unfamiliar with the term, B-roll is cut away shots, which are used
when somebody is speaking on camera.
These shots are really important in a corporate video, so enough time needs to
be built into the shoot day to capture as much as possible. It is a great way to
keep your audience engaged and also reinforce what the person is saying.
It also helps with people who are not used to speaking on camera and may take
a number of takes to get it right. The footage can be cut and instead of causing
a jump shot you can cut away to an image related to what they are saying.
For example if they mention that the company is a fun and friendly working
environment, you could cut away to a shot of employees smiling and enjoying
their working day.
10. Budget
Work out what you want to spend on your video and what the value of the video
is worth to your company.
Corporate videos don’t have to be out of your price range. They can start from as
little as £1,000.
